Abstract:

A truncated Fourier series approximation method for the time-domain aero elastic analysis of bridge is presented. The aerodynamic transfer functions are modified by approximating those using a truncated Fourier series to strongly enforce the causality condition in the impulse response function. The coefficients of truncated Fourier series are determined by minimizing the error between measured and modified transfer function. The impulse response functions corresponding to the modified transfer functions become a series of Dirac delta functions with the same number of the terms used in the Fourier series, which considerably reduces computational effort.
